Whole Wheat Donuts...yep fo realz!

It's no secret, those that know me, understand and accept my love for baked goods! I can avoid candy, not that I do, all day long.  Toss a donut or ask me if I would like a piece of cake, I'll cave 99.9% of the time.  Yes I know they are terrible for me, especially in the servings that I would like to consume.  Full of sugar, yes I know that as well, but still enjoy them so very much!

With that, I try to make healthier versions if at all possible.  I found donut pans by Wilton and ordered them from Amazon right away!

I got this recipe from Eat Good 4 Life.  I have tweaked it a bit over to work more toward the taste of our family.

Our family is a whole wheat flour kind of family.  I haven't bought flour from the store in years, just a choice hubby and I made for our family.  I use the wonder mill to get our freshly ground flour when needed.

I made 2 flavors, regular and chocolate.

First preheat your oven to 325F. Next gather up your ingredients.

Ingredients Needed:

-2 cups fresh milled whole wheat flour (For chocolate version, add 1/3 cup cocoa powder and decrease whole wheat flour to 1 3/4 cup instead of 2 cups)
-1/2 cup honey granules (you can use regular sugar if you don't have honey granules)
-2 eggs
-1 teaspoon baking powder
-1 cup milk
-2 tablespoons coconut oil
-1 teaspoon pure vanilla
-1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
-1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Spray your donut pan, although I'm not sure if it is completely necessary with these pans because it says they are non-stick, but I was so ready to eat a donut, I didn't take any changes and sprayed it down!

In a bowl, mix honey granules, eggs, milk, oil, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Then add flour and baking powder, mix till combined.

Fill the donut pan 2/3 full.

Bake for 12-14 minutes.

Once finished, cool for 5-10 minutes in pan, then move the donuts to a wire rack to completely cool before icing.

I got this wonderful idea for icing from my friend, Andrea. I love it, because you can make any flavor you want!

Icing Ingreidents Needed:

1/2 cup powdered sugar
3-4 teaspoons of coffee creamer, any flavor

I used Almond Joy, a fav of mine and Cinnabon, a fav of my hubby!

Lastly add some flash with sprinkles so they aren't so boring, then enjoy!

Myself, hubby, and girls loved the donuts.  Our boy on the other hand, didn't but he does fight eating healthy.  I have to either force it, bribe, or sneak it in his foods.
